About Noosa Life Chiropractic
Noosa Life Chiropractic is a chiropractic and allied health practice in Tewantin, five minutes from Noosa. It has been looking after this community since 1992. Our principal chiropractor, Dr Roberto De Souza, holds board certification in clinical chiropractic paediatrics on top of his chiropractic degree, and treats patients from three days old to ninety-eight. Every new patient gets a full assessment before anyone touches their spine, and nobody is locked into a plan they have to pay for up front.
That last part matters more than it sounds. Most people who ring us have been somewhere before.

Why People End Up Here
A fair number of our patients arrive after they have already tried everything.
One was a 52-year-old man with headaches every two or three days, on and off for years, plus digestive trouble he had stopped mentioning to anyone. He had seen an osteopath, a physio and his GP. What he had not had was somebody look at the whole picture at once. After a proper assessment, a structured plan of adjustments and a set of exercises he actually did, he went forty-five days without a headache. His posture changed too, which he noticed before we did.
Another was a woman in her forties who had been to a string of chiropractors on the Coast and was, frankly, cross with all of them. Three visits in with us and she was still sore and starting to lose faith. So we went back to her existing X-rays and found a significant scoliosis that nobody had flagged. Once she understood that her spine had decades of habit to unlearn, and that we were talking three to four weeks before we would judge whether the plan was working, everything changed. Not because the treatment changed. Because the expectation was honest.
Dr Roberto’s Qualifications, in Plain English
Credentials in this field are a soup of acronyms, so here is what Roberto’s actually mean.
A Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. The science underneath everything else, before any chiropractic training began. Roberto earned it at Palmer College of Chiropractic in the United States in 2001.
A Doctor of Chiropractic. This is the degree that makes someone a chiropractor, also from Palmer College of Chiropractic in the United States, in 2001.
A Master of Science in Health Education and Promotion. How to teach patients to look after their own bodies, rather than keep them coming back forever. Roberto completed it at Western Illinois University in the United States in 2003.
A three-year diploma in clinical chiropractic paediatrics. This is the important one for parents. It is a board certification specifically in treating babies and children, involving several hundred hours of classroom training plus written and oral examinations. Very few chiropractors in Queensland hold it. It is the reason midwives and other chiropractors send families our way.
A PhD by research, currently underway. Because he still thinks there is more to learn, twenty-odd years in.
Roberto works from a set of seven main chiropractic techniques, all of them researchbased. That is a deliberate choice, and it comes with a matching decision about what he will not do.

What we do not do
We do not add Reiki, energy work or anything similar to a chiropractic treatment. Not because we think less of anyone who does, but because a patient booking a chiropractic appointment should get chiropractic care, and should never walk out wondering what just happened to them.
We do not use the old kinked-hose explanation of how chiropractic works, the one where a bone slips out of place and squashes a nerve. The research does not support it. What does happen is that when a spinal joint is not moving properly, it creates an inflammatory state around the nerve nearby, and that is what an adjustment helps settle. It is a less dramatic story. It has the advantage of being true.
And we do not call soft tissue release chiropractic. That is the expertise of physiotherapists and osteopaths. If that is what your body needs, we will tell you and send you to someone good at it.
Is chiropractic safe? The honest answer
It is the second question almost everyone asks, right after “can this even help me”. So here is the straight version.
Chiropractic care, done properly with the right assessment and the right protocols, is a very safe treatment. Roberto’s comparison is that it carries far less risk than a course of anti-inflammatory tablets, which most people buy off the chemist shelf and take at home without a second thought.
The safety comes from what happens before the treatment, not during it. Every new patient gets a full history, a neurological examination, an orthopaedic examination and a chiropractic examination. If we need imaging, we send you for imaging.
And sometimes the assessment says no. Recently a woman came in with spinal pain and unexplained weight loss. Those two things together are a red flag, so we did not treat her. We sent her to her GP first and asked her to come back afterwards. There was a medical issue, it was found, and she thanked us for it. We would rather lose the appointment than miss something.
If chiropractic is not right for you, we will say so, and we will point you toward the person who can help instead.

Babies, children and pregnancy
Roberto has treated babies from three days old. Parents usually come to us about settling and sleep, ear infections, colic and reflux, snoring or mouth breathing, bed-wetting, and posture worries as children hit growth spurts.
The question every parent asks first is whether it is safe, and specifically whether their baby is going to be cracked. No. Adjusting an infant uses very light fingertip pressure, closer to the pressure you would use to check a peach is ripe than anything you have seen on the internet. Roberto will show you exactly what he is going to do before he does it, and nothing happens until you are comfortable.
This is the part of the practice where the paediatric board certification really earns its keep, and it is why midwives in the area refer families to us. You can read more about paediatric chiropractic care for babies and children, including what a first visit with a baby actually looks like.
Why other health professionals send patients to us
Roberto works alongside GPs, ENT surgeons, dentists, physiotherapists, osteopaths, naturopaths, exercise physiologists and psychologists across the region. Notes get shared. Cases get discussed. Patients with complicated presentations get a group of people thinking about them instead of one.
He is fairly blunt about this: if you are choosing a practitioner, ask what other health professionals in the area think of them, and ask whether they work with anyone else at all. Someone who never refers out and never collaborates is telling you something.
The ENT referrals are worth a mention on their own. Adjustments can help some patients with blocked ears, hearing trouble and sinus issues, which is why those surgeons send people over for an assessment.

No prepayment, no lock-in
There is no package to buy up front here. No twelve-month plan, no direct debit, no discount for committing to thirty visits before you have had one.
You pay per visit. The frequency is set by how your body is actually responding, not by a contract. At weeks two, four and six we sit down with a progress report and go through it with you: here is what has changed, here is what has not, here is what is left, and here is what continuing would cost. Then you decide. Yes or no, both are fine.
Fees vary depending on the time your treatment needs and whether other things are involved, like massage, dry needling, shockwave therapy or a foot scan. You get an estimate up front, before you commit to anything.
The Practice
Noosa Life Chiropractic and Massage was established in 1992. Roberto and his family had been coming to this area for winter holidays for years while running four practices in Launceston, Deloraine and Devonport in Tasmania. When the chance came to buy the Tewantin practice, they took it in January 2021, and swapped a Tasmanian winter for this one. Nobody has regretted it.
Alongside chiropractic, the practice offers remedial and deep tissue massage, naturopathy, neuromuscular dry needling, shockwave therapy and 3D foot scanning for custom orthotics. Some patients get the best result from a combination, and we will tell you honestly what we think will work for you.
We are open Monday to Saturday. Meet the full team, or read about what happens at your first visit.

Common questions
Will it hurt? Most adjustments do not hurt. Plenty of our patients are nervous at their first appointment, usually about their neck, and we would rather you said so than sat there tensing up. Roberto explains each step before he does it, and nothing happens until you are ready. If a technique does not suit you, there are others.
How long will I need to come? It depends on what is wrong and how long it has been wrong. Something fresh from last week is a different job to twenty years of compensating for an old injury. After your assessment we will give you a realistic estimate, usually a set number of weeks at a certain frequency, along with what it will cost. Then we check in at weeks two, four and six and adjust the plan against how you are actually going.
How much does it cost? Fees are based on the time your care takes and the treatments involved. You get an estimate at your first visit before anything is booked in, and health fund rebates apply for most patients. If cost is on your mind, say so at the start and we will work with it.
Can chiropractic actually help my problem? Sometimes the honest answer is no, and you deserve to know that before you spend money. If you are unsure, ring us and ask for a quick chat with Roberto before you book. He would rather spend five minutes on the phone telling you that you need someone else than take a booking he cannot help with.
Do you see children? Yes, from a few days old. Roberto holds a three-year board certification in clinical chiropractic paediatrics, and paediatric care is the part of the practice he is best known for.
