At Noosa Life Chiropractic and Massage, we care for people of all ages. Our paediatric chiropractor, Dr Roberto De Souza, has experience seeing everyone, from newborn babies and infants to seniors. He has completed a three-year postgraduate programme in paediatric chiropractic and holds the DICCP (Diplomate in Clinical Chiropractic Paediatrics). Why We See Children
Where a parent has a specific concern about how their child is moving, sitting or recovering from an injury, an age-appropriate musculoskeletal assessment can tell you what is going on and whether chiropractic care is the right fit for it.
Chiropractic care may help children manage musculoskeletal conditions, and the musculoskeletal aspects of some other conditions. Individuals respond differently to any form of care. A children’s chiropractic assessment may include spinal and postural examination, movement and joint assessment, and appropriate neurological and orthopaedic testing. Common reasons parents bring children and teenagers to see us include:
- Back or neck discomfort
- Postural concerns, and changes in posture or movement during growth spurts
- Sore or tight muscles
- Leg or joint pain, where we assess for a musculoskeletal cause and refer on if we find something else
- Sports injuries, or recurring muscle or joint discomfort affecting sport or everyday activities
Every child is different, so our first priority is to understand what is happening, perform an age-appropriate assessment and determine whether chiropractic care is suitable or whether referral to another healthcare professional is recommended. If your concern is your child’s sleep, breathing, or repeated infections, your GP or paediatrician is the right first call, and we will tell you that rather than book you in.
Care is modified according to the child’s age, size and clinical presentation. High-velocity spinal manipulation is not used in children under two years of age.
Dr Roberto’s Experience
In addition to graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic in the United States, Dr Roberto completed a three-year postgraduate programme in paediatric chiropractic, earning the DICCP (Diplomate in Clinical Chiropractic Paediatrics) qualification.

We see children of all ages, and we like working with families. As we are a family practice, we often see mums, dads and children at all different stages of their growth and development.
Who Paediatric Chiropractic Care May NOT Be Appropriate For
Paediatric chiropractic care is designed to be gentle and age-appropriate, but it is not suitable for every child or every situation. A comprehensive assessment is always required to determine whether chiropractic care is clinically appropriate, or whether referral to another healthcare professional is the best course of action.
Paediatric chiropractic care may not be appropriate for children with suspected fractures, spinal infections, tumours, acute trauma, certain congenital spinal abnormalities, or neurological symptoms that are progressive or unexplained. In these cases, further medical investigation or specialist care is essential before any form of manual therapy is considered.
Children experiencing severe or worsening pain, loss of coordination, changes in bladder or bowel function, unexplained weight loss, persistent fever, or developmental regression should be assessed by a medical professional as a priority. Chiropractic care should always complement, not replace, appropriate medical management when red flags are present.
